Academic Background
Stefan Hirschauer has been Professor for Sociological Theory and Gender Studies at Mainz University since 2006. Before that, he was Professor for Sociology and Gender Studies at Munich University, LMU. He was Visiting Scholar at the Department for Science Studies of Cor­nell University und Guest Professor at the Institute for Sociology at Vienna University and at Centre de Sociologie de l’Innovation in Paris. Stefan Hirschauer was Heisenberg-fellow of DFG and assistant Professor at the faculty for Sociology at Bielefeld Unviersity. 1998 he received his Habilitation, 1991 his Ph.D. qualification in Bielefeld, where he in 1985 also received his Diploma in Sociology. 1991 he gained the Mullins-Award of the Society for Social Studies of Science. Between 1990–1999 Stefan Hirschauer was editor of German Jounral for Sociology (Zeitschrift für Soziologie).
